Mission & Strategy
The California Nurse-Midwives Foundation (CNMF) was born out of a commitment to addressing health equity and racial justice through a midwifery model of care that centers on providing culturally concordant care to diverse birthing people and their families wherever they are. Founded in 2019, CNMF is overseen by a Board of Directors, and is a 501(c)(3) whose work is funded by foundations and individual donors.
CNMF aims to secure funds to support smaller organizations and people (particularly BIPOC people), to support aspiring and student midwives, to diversify the midwifery workforce, and increase access to the midwifery model of care through institutional and systems change.

- Terms & Term Limits: Board members must serve at least one term of two years. There shall be no more than three consecutive terms served by any one board member. Serve on the BOD for at least one full term (two years). We anticipate your term will start July 2024
- BOD Contributions: BOD members commit to (i) leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve the organization’s mission (ii) participate in fundraising activities for CNMF and bring and engage new donors to the organization and (iii) attend CNMF events (educational, social, fundraiser)
- Time Commitment: Meetings take place monthly on Wednesdays at 6pm for one hour. In addition, board members are expected to participate in at least one BOD sub-committee. Time commitment per month is about 4-6 hours for regular members and 10 hours for officers.
- Confidentiality & Conflict of Interest: We expect all members to maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization. In addition, all members sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure.
